Meeting Action items
(1) Updates on Farm to School programming with Lapham and Marquette
- Lapham in the middle of nutrition lessons
- Will be making cranberry juice with the classes over the next couple of weeks while learning about local foods, seasonal foods, and where food comes from
- Marquette will start the garden club next week (will be a 3-week session due to snow day on the original start date)
- We will start by analyzing compost versus depleted soil under microscopes, learning about healthy soil and why we need it for the ecosystem and our food, will end with a snack
- Made sign-up genius for parent volunteers who noted they have interest in supporting the club, we have not gotten any sign-ups yet despite the interest
- Emily planning to fade out from leading the garden club after spring break to focus on working with Marquette teachers who have interest, as well as 4K once we can get into the garden at Lapham
- This will also open up time for more planning to relate garden activities to the science curriculum for teachers, hopefully will be helpful as F2S transitions out of Lapham/Marquette
(2) Discuss garden funding needs
- Madee to share needs for Marquette garden
- Neighborhood association grant is open, will need someone to apply to this
- Does Lapham have any funding needs?
(3) Discuss F2S transitioning out of Lapham/Marquette and option for schools to pay for Gardener in Residence transition option through Rooted
- Share breakdown of program options and costs
- Share overview of what is included
(4) Need for volunteers to take over leading and organizing the Lapham/Marquette Green Team for future meetings
- Emily can share what this looks like at other schools (school staff and community work together to organize, operate, and lead)
- This is a foundation of school garden longevity
(5) Discuss any upcoming events that need to be planned for
- Science Night
- Earth Day event
- Future workdays
